September 2010

We had a very positive start to 2010, but continue to have much to work towards this year.  Four people completed runs (Adam Carter did the Brighton Marathon, and Kate Yarrow, Nina Haefele, and Alice Thomas the London Bupa 10Km) raising nearly £4000 between them.

Lalit continues to excel at Nepalgunj Medical College - and is half way through his 3rd year.  He is finding is financially tough and is requesting more books and funds towards these. We are requesting that people either donate directly to DFN or donate used medical books.

We are now affiliated with Patan academy of health sciences where our next student has started. We are desperately trying to raise £7000 for the first year of the first students studies, so please  do support us so that we can continue with our mission to train more medical students.

Kate Yarrow will be visiting Nepal in the Autumn, to establish the new scholarship system with Patan Academy of Health Sciences in Kathmandu.  Part of the visit will be a health-care needs assessment to the far west of Nepal; we now hope to extend our program to include setting up clinical services such as a Doctors For Nepal family planning program; this will enable us to get closer links to the Nepalese community, and to further help our student doctors in their clinical practice. We fully appreciate all of the support of our donors, but continue to need more financial support - so please dig deep and donate to help us better the health care in Nepal.

Thank you for all of your support,

Dr Kate Yarrow
